Moths: VERY basic guide on care

As you see. I have a new obsession for moths and most of this will turn into a moth log. ^-^

Finding a Moth
Wait for a nice spring/summer evening which is where moths usually come out and set up a bright white light and wait for moths to come – moths are attracted to bright light. After you see a couple of moths you like flying around. Be quick and capture it using the net or by using the jar, but be careful not to damage their delicate wings.

Habitat
Find a nice dark/shady and quiet place to keep your moths.
Here are some ideas on where to keep your moths:

  • A Fish Tank
  • Jar with holes on the lid
  • A large teapot with close knit netting on the spout.

Put some leaves in the container with some twigs.
Every week or so, clean out your moth tank and remove any moth feces and old leaves. Keep your moth in another container when you are doing this. Pick some new leaves and place the moths back in the tank.

Food
Most adult moths do not eat at all. But place some slices of apples and oranges in the tank with a bit of lettuce and a milk-bottle-cap full of normal tap water.
Moths also love sugar water. Mix some sugar with water and put it in a milk-bottle-cap and place it in the tank. Moths go crazy for it.
